I am not good at mailing. I can fill a box with goodies to send in the mail, but getting the box to the post office, well, that's another story! So when I found out one of my local friends was traveling to the city where Mom lives, I thought, I'll make her something, and I'll send it with Sandy!
Some of you will remember Mom's color choices from Mom's Quilt. I went with similar colors for a couple of hot pads for her. I can't get these log cabin pot holders out of my system, so I made more of them.
I think a binding on the edge always looks great and went with brown on these. They are single fold bindings, rather than the double fold I would use on a larger quilt.
I'm so glad I keep all of my scraps when I sew, as these were strips from other projects. Speaking of scraps, mine are really just that but I think it's funny how other quilting bloggers talk about using their scraps, and they have really large pieces of fabric to show for it. Honey, that's no scrap, that's what I start with! I don't buy very large pieces of any one fabric. I feel like I get "more" that way.
Mom will smile when she sees the back of these. It is material that she gave me and I can just hear her saying about the bottom one, "Oh, is that Jack and me?!" (Her grandson)

and enjoying a summer day skateboarding and having a snow cone off of the ice cream truck that drove by the skate park.
