I really liked trying out the log cabin block on some potholders recently (found here), and decided to make a larger version for the kitchen. My initial thought was to make it a slip cover for some foam rugs I purchased at Costco that have taken a beating. They need a face lift! It sounded like a good idea, until I spent hours and hours working on this baby.
Does there come a point when something is too pretty to be a rug? I'm all for pretty rugs if it was just hubby and I in our socks that were standing on them. But we have two boys. hmmm.
Then I got to thinking that I've never made myself a table runner for the dining room table and maybe this is the time! I think the size is just right so I can stop here and don't have to keep adding side strips for the size of the rug. That works for me!
I had a few more to go on each side, as initially planned above. No worries, I will use those strips in something else. I'm thinking a strip quilt for my Aunt Pat, who loves the same colors that I love.
I wanted to point out to my fellow quilters reading this that this huge roll of thread was fantastic for this project. No changing out thread. I've gone through at least 6 bobbins with all of the straight line quilting.
I think I have the perfect border for this. I have been saving this striped fabric for a border. Every fabric in this table runner is from my stash. Yeah! Today I'm adding a back piece and the border and it will be finished!
Then on to one of my other three works in progress. :)
Anyone doing the quilt along with Crazy Mom Quilts? The details can be found here. Looks like fun!
